"The hand is closed, so the thumb does not separate. We did this to make it easier for little hands to dress and undress the doll," the company commented.
The My First Barbie doll is about 13,5 inches tall, compared to 11,5 inches for the standard one. The retail price of the product is $20. The doll is currently on sale at Walmart, Target, and other major retailers, as well as on Amazon.
The decision to develop a doll specifically designed for little girls was made by Mattel a year ago. The My First Barbie series has produced new items before, but all of them were designed for older children.
Mattel has been making Barbie dolls since 1959. In the first year of production, 300 thousand of copies were sold. To date, more than one billion dolls have been sold worldwide.
