Consulting company Kantar has published an annual ranking of the 50 largest retailers in the world market.
For the 23rd time in a row, American giant Walmart topped the list, simultaneously taking the top spot in 7 out of 9 key metrics. For the fourth year in a row, PepsiCo holds the first place in the brand ranking, as it was the leader in all nine parameters studied last year.
Retailers ranked by the Kantar US PoweRating are rated by their retail partners, while brands, on the other hand, are scored by retail chains. Ranking in the final list takes into account many factors, from business fundamentals to strategic indicators.
The authors of the study note that Walmart remains at the top of the list due to a clear strategy, well-organized supply chain, as well as the use of digital resources and confidence in future results. Kroger Co. ranked second among global retailers for the fourth year in a row. Rounding out the top three is Target, which has risen in the rankings thanks to large investments in development through various channels. The top 5 best retailers in the global market also include Amazon and Costco.
"PWalmart position at the top of the rankings once again shows its ability to constantly innovate and keep abreast of the latest retail trends,” commented Kantar spokesman Patrick Fellin. “Walmart is embracing change and effectively managing long-term retail climate change.”
In the brand ranking PepsiCo leadership continues by driving revenue and profit growth through the effective use of innovative solutions. Second in this ranking for the third year in a row remains Coca-Cola, which experts note for quick decision-making and building strong partnerships. P&G, like last year, closes the top three. General Mills and Nestlé showed the largest growth for the year, improving their positions in the global ranking by six and two positions, respectively.
According to Fellin, today's market leaders are taking advantage of the changing marketplace shifting towards the buyer and building better, deeper relationships with their customers.
