In the near future the company Nokia plans to lay off another 3,500 workers. Mass layoffs will be carried out in Romania and Germany. This process will be quite lengthy and will be completed only by the end of 2012.
The company itself announced this in its official statement. Mass layoffs are one of the important steps in the restructuring. In total, it is planned to reduce seven thousand people around the world. Management Nokia expects that this will allow it to save at least one billion dollars annually.
The last year has been especially difficult for the Finnish company. It is still the world leader in the production of mobile phones (although sales of devices have declined quite significantly), but has already lost its title in the production of smartphones. Recent times Nokia regularly reports losses of hundreds of millions of euros, although the company was consistently profitable a few years ago.
