Officially it became known that the American postal service United Parcel Service (UPS) will absorb TNT Express, its competitor from the Netherlands. It is also reported that the value of the transaction will be 5.16 billion euros, at 9.5 euros per share.
The deal will create a global logistics company. Interestingly, earlier this year, UPS already offered to carry out a deal, but the amount of 4.89 billion euros she named did not suit TNT.
Thus, UPS becomes the largest delivery company in the world (TNT ranked fourth). In addition, such a purchase will allow it to significantly strengthen its position in the European and Chinese markets. This is a record deal in the history of the company, which has swallowed up about three dozen competitors in the course of its existence.
The last year has not been very successful for TNT, which suffered a loss of 270 million euros last year as a result of entering new emerging markets and undergoing a major restructuring of the company.
