For the second time in history, the Pantone Color Institute has named not one, but two colors of the year. They are soothing gray and invigorating bright yellow.
Associated with pebbly beaches and concrete monoliths, PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Grey, a deep gray color, is distinguished by its relaxing properties. But the bright PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating will be associated with lemons, sunshine and good mood. It would seem that these two shades have nothing to do with each other. But the specialists from the Color Institute had their own reasons to give preference to them.
This is the answer to the difficulties of the outgoing 2020. The two chosen colors are described as "an alliance that conveys a message of strength and hope." They symbolize perseverance and enthusiasm, strength and positive, reliability and good mood. Each of these colors has its own emotional aspects, the combination of which is now so important for people who are forced to live in the difficult times of the coronavirus era and the emotional, social and economic upheavals caused by it.
The colors chosen reflect humanity's hope that the coming year 2021 will bring new opportunities. People want to believe that the advent of a vaccine will allow them to travel again, to fully communicate with each other, to feel the fullness of life again. In this movement forward, we cannot do without a sense of self-confidence and a positive attitude. And two chosen Pantone colors, so unrelated to each other at first glance, perfectly convey the emotions that overwhelm people today from various countries around the world.
The pandemic has also affected the color selection process itself. And if the employees of the Institute usually spent a lot of time traveling, this year they conducted their research on global trends on the Internet. But the goal in choosing the color of the year remained the same as in previous years - to reflect the culture of the moment in which we live today.
