The product will be available in more than 60 coffee shops nationwide.
Starbucks is expanding its olive oil-infused drinks menu and launching Oleato in Japan. In the first phase, the product will roll out to more than 60 stores nationwide, including Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo.
The innovative Oleato line of coffee drinks is an unexpected combination of high-quality Starbucks Arabica coffee and Partanna extra virgin olive oil.
In February 2023, Oleato debuted in Italy, and in March, it appeared in the U.S. - in coffee shops in Chicago, New York, and Seattle. Japan was not randomly chosen as the third world market to test the new product - 25 years ago, it was the first country on the Starbucks map outside North America.
Howard Schultz joined partners and customers in Tokyo to introduce a new, transformative coffee ritual to Japan. The story of Oleato began when the head of Starbucks was introduced to the tradition of drinking a spoonful of extra virgin olive oil daily as a ritual while traveling through Italy.
“Since our first launch in Milan and now in select US markets, partner pride and customer enthusiasm for Oleato has exceeded our expectations. As we bring this new coffee innovation to Japan, my stay in Tokyo this week reminds me of the enduring and global relevance of community, connection, and passion for coffee and the craft,” commented Schultz.
Since opening its first store in Ginza in 1996, Starbucks has opened more than 1,800 coffee shops in Japan, now employing more than 51,000 people.
