Volkswagen's new We Deliver service allows you to use your car trunk as a parcel locker.
Volkswagen We Deliver service allows delivery workers to put the goods you ordered in the trunk of your car in your absence. This can be useful, for example, when you simply do not have time to wait for a courier. The trunk in this case will simply fulfill the role of a post office. The slogan of the new service is the phrase "Bag full of ideas" (“A trunk full of new ideas”).
The automaker says safety was "high on the list of priorities in the development of the service." Information about the location of the car will be at the disposal of only one courier for a limited period of time. He will also receive a one-time access code. However, he will not have full access, but only the ability to control the trunk opening function.
The service is available only for the latest models of the automaker. Only owners of cars manufactured in 2019 and owners of Touaregs manufactured after July 2, 2018 will be able to use it. All you need to do is to register in a special application.
The service is provided as part of the Volkswagen We digital services package, which also includes the We Experience recommendation service, the We Park parking app and the We Share electric car sharing service. All these services were already launched in Berlin in 2018. It took quite a lot of time to test, but apparently all the imperfections were eliminated, since Volkswagen decided to launch We Deliver also in the UK in 2020.
