The company was founded in 1999 by American tycoon Robert Bigelow. At the moment, everything that does Bigelow Aerospace - conducts tireless and expensive research, builds models of future space complexes in full size. Sometimes research is carried out jointly with other aerospace companies - for example, with the same Boeing.
The main difference between projects developed Bigelow Aerospace, is that all their complexes will be inflatable. Thanks to this approach, their launch into orbit and installation are greatly simplified. As for safety and reliability, this is exactly what the company's specialists are working on. The project looks promising. The idea to use inflatable complexes was born a long time ago. But only Bigelow Aerospace took them seriously. The company also has a successful experience in launching space modules - Genesis I и Genesis II.
In September 2004, Robert Biglow announced that he was establishing a special prize (America's Space Prize) to the research team that can develop a cheap-to-use reusable spacecraft capable of delivering several passengers into orbit.
