General Electric, the largest American corporation producing a wide range of equipment and technical means, announced its intention to purchase 25,000 electric vehicles. This is the number of cars that will replenish the fleet GE by 2015, which will be half of all the company's vehicles.
In 2011, it is planned to start buying a new model from General Motors —Chevrolet Volt. In total, about 12,000 vehicles will be purchased. For retail customers, the Chevrolet Volt will be available by the end of this year.
For manufacturers like General Motors Nissan и Ford, acquisitions of this magnitude will be a great help and will greatly accelerate the work on the creation and improvement of electric vehicles. In addition, the cost of such cars will decrease, which means they will be more affordable for ordinary buyers.
Total GE intends to invest about 10 billion US dollars in the development of various energy-saving technologies. And, of course, to get profit growth from the introduction of electric vehicles and other “green” technologies. For example, growth in electric vehicle purchases promises to bring the company annual revenue of $500 million through the sale of chargers and other related products.
