Samsung has decided to redouble its efforts to create smartphones with a foldable display.
Despite the failure that occurred during first launch of Galaxy Fold, and not the most successful re-launch, the South Korean manufacturer does not give up. During Samsung's annual developer conference, the company unveiled a new concept for foldable phones that is drastically different from the Fold. Instead of expanding from a regular-sized smartphone to a tablet, the new concept is more like a flip phone, a sort of futuristic version of the once exclusive popular Motorola Razr.
Samsung R&D leader Hyesoon Jeong explained that the goal is to use folding screen technology to create more compact form factors. Still, the Fold, even when folded, is quite large. The company hopes the new form factor will make folding-screen phones more convenient. According to Hyson Jeong, the development "will not only fit easily in your pocket, but will also change the way you use your phone."
Naturally, we are only talking about the concept so far, no exact dates for the appearance of the “clamshell” have been named, work in this direction has just begun. Instead of this Samsung took the opportunity to talk about her efforts to create the new One UI 2.0 skin, which is now in the testing phase. In particular, it is stated that it will support all form factors of smartphones with folding screens.
Meanwhile foldable smartphone market slowly begins to revive. Brands such as Huawei, Sharp and Motorola also promise to introduce such devices. However, only Samsung has really noticeable results so far.
