By its appearance Taco Bell obliged McDonald's, whose success inspired ex-seaman, World War II veteran Glen Bell to create a similar diner. So in 1948 in San Bernardino, California (San Bernardino, California) appeared Bell´s Drive-In. At first, the menu of the Bella establishment was not much different from the menu McDonald's - hamburgers, fries, hot dogs. However, in the future, the idea arose to change the direction of activity, switching to Hispanic residents of the United States and lovers of Mexican cuisine. Since 1952 in Bell´s Drive-In began to sell dishes such as tacos, nachos, burritos. So several eateries appear Taco Tias. Однако, в 1955 году Белл продает их, и с новыми партнерами открывает несколько ресторанов быстрого питания, также специализирующихся на мексиканской кухне — El Tacos.
Network Taco Bell appeared in 1962, when Bell sold his part in El Tacos and single-handedly opened a new restaurant. Experienced in matters of fast food, he quickly managed to unwind. In 1964, Bell began franchising anyone wishing to open their own diner. The network quickly expanded throughout the country. In 1975 Taco Bell company buys PepsiCo Inc., for $125 million. By that time, there were already 868 restaurants in the USA. First Taco Bell appeared abroad in 1977.
Glen Bell himself lived a long (and probably interesting) life, living to the age of 86. He passed away in January 2010. Today, his creation has become the world's largest chain of Mexican restaurants. They serve tens of millions of consumers every week. The vast majority of these establishments are franchised.
