Group division Seiko Group. A well-known manufacturer of computer peripherals (printers were especially famous, with which it all started), ready-made computer systems (both desktops and laptops), as well as projectors.
It all started with a company Daiwa Kogyo Ltd from the Japanese city of Suwa, Nagano District (Suwa, Nagano), historically engaged in clockwork. In 1959, this company merges with another watch company Daini Seikosha Co., Ltd., resulting in the formation Suwa Seikosha. In 1962 Suwa Seikosha, which by that time already belonged to Seiko Group, receives a responsible mission - she is tasked with creating a printable timer needed for the 1964 18th Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. The development of this device (and it was executed with high quality and on time) prompted the idea of creating our own printing device.
The first model was the printer EP-101which took over four years to develop. It went into mass production in 1968. It was the first mini-printer, weighing 2.5 kilograms. And this was in those years when the weight of several tens of kilograms for a printer was the norm. The first pancake was not lumpy at all. Moreover, EP-101 was so successful that it changed not only the main line of business Suwa Seikosha, but also the very perception of “what a printer should be”.
It was decided to create a new brand. The combination “Ep Son” was chosen as the name - thus, all subsequent models became, in fact, the “sons” of the Ep model *. herself Suwa Seikosha changed its name to Seiko Epson Corporation.

The subsequent history of the company is a success story. New models are constantly being released, inkjet and laser printers appear, innovative technologies are being developed (especially the unique Epson Micro Piezo inkjet printing technology should be noted). Print quality of printers Epson wins the respect of users around the world.
In the early 1980s, Seiko Epson Corporation expands the scope of activities, starting to develop and create more and projectors, achieving success in this field. In 1989, the world's first LCD projector appears. Since then, the company has been one of the leading manufacturers of projectors. Its special pride is 3LCD technology.
Also in the 80s, active work was carried out in the direction of computer technology. For example, a laptop appears HX-20often referred to as the world's first laptop.
1998 was marked by the Olympic Games in Nagano. Needless to say, time control has been entrusted again Seiko Group?
Talking about creations Epson it is impossible not to mention about the created in 1993 Monsieur - the smallest robot in the world (which was noted by the Guinness Book of Records).
Headquarters Seiko Epson Corporation still located in Suva. Representative offices and subsidiaries are scattered all over the world. The number of employees has long been in the tens of thousands.
*) This practice seems to be generally honored by the Japanese. For example, quite popular cars in the 60s of the 20th century Datsun, originally named Datson - which meant "son of Dat" (as the first cars of the company were called). True, in the future, for some reason, the letter "O" was replaced by "U".
